A Rare Breed

A Rare Breed introduces us to Rob Wilson (47XXY), a Tasmanian Chicken and Pig breeder. Rob was born with two complete sets of male and female gonads and underwent surgery as a child to present more male-like in appearance. With the assistance of fertility treatments, he went on to ‘father’ children and, by all accounts, has lived successfully in that role.

Rob said it was because of his differences that he became interested in breeding Bantam Chickens playing around with their genetics until he fine-tuned several breeds, such as his prized Wyandotte Bantams, and became seventh in the world at producing them. Rob has now reached a point where he feels it’s time to share his life of being XXY so that newer generations will not have the same experience. In his own words, ‘people deserve to know that life is not black and white as they often make it out to be.

Red Wombat Productions tell us the full documentary will be made available in the new year, but for now, it’s winning accolades at major Australian film festivals. While we await its public release, we would like to bring to your attention upcoming screenings at Melbourne Queer Film Fest and Geelong Pride Film Fest and ask that you give it your tick of approval on the day.
